Entrepreneurship Is Not For The Lazy

Monday, April 21st, 2008

As a little kid, whenever anyone asks me what career I want to pursue when I grow-up, I tell them that I want to be a Managing Director. My cousin gets embarrassed whenever he hears this and scolds me that there is no such career! Well, that was what I wanted. At the back of my mind I wanted to occupy a big office and sit on a big executive swivel chair issuing instruction to subordinates! Funny enough, I never bother to think about what I was going to be managing (a hospital or a blog, lol). I was only focussed on, the big title, big office, big executive desk and swivel chair and subordinates standing at attention while I issue commands. Pretty childish, but I held unto it until I did a course in the University, Entrepreneurship Development. It was then I was forced to think about what service I will be rendering to the consumers!
Unfortunately, an average would-be Nigerian Entrepreneur is still having that faulty frame of mind. If you ask an average Nigerian, he will tell you “I want to do business” meaning I want to be my own boss, I want to be a “Chairman Managing Director”, an entrepreneur. The phrase Managing Director is regarded as a status symbol, not a job designation for an Entrepreneur (If you listen to some folktale-musicians in Nigeria, you will understand better what I mean). I get really bothered when I read posts in Nigerian Forums that shows that even some of the educated ones are still reasoning along that line. (more…)

However, like any other business idea, you need to understand the workings of the business before expecting profit. Too many online entrepreneur have spent money and time struggling to earn income from affiliate marketing programs without success.

Earn Income Online By Trading Domain Names

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Buying domain names and selling them for a profit is a good way to earn income online. Domain or website names simply refer to the addresses of websites on the internet. www.naijaecash.com is the Domain or website address for this site you are viewing.
The business of buying and selling domain requires a very small start-up capital. You can start with as low as $10. That means any Nigerian Entreprenuer doing business online can easily add Domain Names Trading to his/her online business portfolio. GoDaddy.com is currently offering domain names at a ridiculous price of $1.99!

See below some domain names that were purchased at less than $10 but sold for tens of thousand dollars.

Google Adsense and Nigerian Online Entrepreneurs

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

I have come across several advertisement placed by fellow Nigerian claiming they can make Nigerians rich through Google Adsense. Some of the adverts go this way

  • Make money online while you sleep ….
  • Many Nigerians are making thousands of dollars from Google Adsense e.t.c

The advertisers promises to perform the magic once their special packages (ready-made “Adsense-ready-blogs”, auto-blogging softwares, e.t.c) are purchased. The price ranges from N5,000 to N10,000 (about $40 – $80).
I get amused and angry when I read such claims. Of course I do a quick check on the website of such advertiser . Too many of them have details similar to the following:

  • Web Address – xyz.blogspot.com (free hosting, while earning thousands of dollars per month, I am skeptical!)
  • Site Traffic – XXX (some make the grave mistake of displaying traffic details on their website – less than 1,000 visitors!)
  • Website Popularity – Google PR – Unranked Alexa Rank – x,xxx, xxx (so where are the visitors clicking on the adsense advert to generate the $x,xxx they claim). They must be telling lies 🙁

Enough of the report, What is Google Adsense? Is it an Income Earning Opportunity for Online Entreprenuers, Nigerians inclusive?

Friday, March 28th, 2008
  1. Belief – You need to belief in yourself that you can do it. So many successful entrepreneurs were people written off as failures by the society. Some of the entrepreneurs making waves in the business world now had more hurdles to combat than you presently have. So be encouraged. (I will suggest you read bibliography of successful men, their testimonies will inspire you to succeed).
  2. Desire – Without a strong desire to succeed, temporary setbacks or hurdles will easily kill your dream.
  3. Goal – You must be able to state clearly, and in explicit terms the end result you’re aiming for. It is best if you write it down using unambiguous words and stating the time frame within which you desire to accomplish the goal.
