Going For A Five Days Vacation!

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

My activities offline have been hectic this week. There has been several business challenges such that it was practically impossible to keep up with my blogging activities. However, it has been somehow more like an adventure. I feel relieved that the challenges are now testimonies of jobs well done. That means I deserve some kind of reward, don’t you agree? Oh, you expect me to resume my blogging activities. Well, that is a good idea for my online business (at least to keep my readers happy). But I am thinking otherwise.

The Nigerian Government have declared a three day public holiday next week. So, I have decided to stay offline starting from today and catch up with activities happening around me and my family. So, instead of resuming my blogging activities now, I am off to a five days vacation (not sponsored with blog earnings like Yaro Starak). My better half is footing the bills (that is one of the main reason for the excitement, call me a stingy businessman who loves freebies if you like).

I still consider the physical world as been much more interesting than the virtual world. If you reason otherwise, drop a note to tell us about it. Till I return, stay cool. For my Naija friends, happy holidays. Cheers.

Definition of the word Naija

Naija

Naija

What is the meaning of the word Naija? The word Naija is a slang use by Nigerians especially those in diaspora to fondly refer to themselves. It therefore refers to Nigeria as a country and also Nigerians as a people. For example, a Nigerian in diaspora might say something like, “I be Naija Proper” meaning, I am Proudly Nigerian. While if he says, “I dey go Naija” he is simply saying he is taking a trip back home, i.e. he is visiting Nigeria.

Well, that is it. When next you hear the word Naija, be rest assured that a Nigerian who is Proudly Nigerian is talking about Nigeria or the citizens of Nigeria. In recent times, the slang is gaining wide acceptance even among Nigerians at home. So, all over the world wide web, you can find webmasters who are showing that they are proud of Nigeria, the most populous country in Black Africa. They often incorporate the word Naija into their domain names. I happen to be one of them. Because I am proudly Nigerian, my website url is named, www.NaijaEcash.com Anywhere I find myself, I am proud to reveal my identity as Proudly Nigerian.

Nigerian Infopreneurs And The Burden Of Integrity

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Info Products and Seminars is what is making waves in Nigeria now. Every Tom, Dick and Harry wants to replicate (maybe the right word is imitate or fake) the success of Dr. Sunny Obazu-Ojeagbase who is well known as the pioneer of Info-preneurship in Nigeria.

Dr. Sunny Obazu-Ojeagbase spent years working to establish himself as a reputable Infopreneur in Nigeria. His vision according to him is to empower the jobless and unemployable youths (unskilled graduates and non-graduates) in Nigeria. This is evident in his approach to his information business. Everyone that has come into contact with this man testifies of him as a man of Integrity! His efforts over the year has finally paid off as he has now become an authority in the packaging and sale of info-products in Nigeria. His passion for improving the lot of youth has yielded fruits in so many lives.

Unfortunately, the same tools which he successfully, used in empowering many jobless youths are now being employed by some new self-proclaimed Infopreneur Gurus to exploit unsuspecting Nigerians. The major cities of Nigeria are now filled with advertisements of InfoProducts and Seminars that promises to turn the fortunes of Nigerians. Unlike the pioneer’s product, these promises are just empty promises as the people behind those adverts do not value or care about INTEGRITY in business. (more…)

Pass The Baton

Pass The Baton

A business research expert told me that the average lifespan of a family-owned business is 24 years, and 60 percent of family-owned businesses do not have a clear succession plan. That got me thinking. As a Nigerian, I am well aware that several indigenous businesses in Nigeria are family business. Most of the successful Nigerian Entrepreneurs that are making waves in the economy built up their businesses as family-owned businesses. Just a minute, what really is a family business?

What is a family business?
For the purpose of this discussion, I will define a family business as a corporation that is majorly owned by the members of a single family. In other words, a family business is a business in which members of a family have significant ownership interest and significant commitments toward the business’ overall well-being. They hold the controlling shares and dictate what happens. Naija brothers and sisters will quickly understand this. NaijaEcash & Sons Company sure sounds familiar (even though it has not been documented with Corporate Affairs Commission). (more…)

Free Blog Traffic From Stumble Upon

StumbleUpon

StumbleUpon

If you want free quality traffic for your blog or website, I suggest you check out StumbleUpon. When I first started blogging, I relied heavily on free traffic being provided by Entrecard. The traffic from Entrecard was basically other bloggers like myself who are looking for ways to promote their websites. Some call such traffic junk traffic, I call it good traffic for a newbie. You will not get motivated to continue blogging if your statistics shows that it is only you and your family members that know that your website exist!

Well, it is over six months now that I have been blogging with focus. I felt it was time to try some other means of getting traffic. I started using Digg to promote my blog, but I discovered that the effect was not much and it is often a one-day effect. StumbleUpon offers a better result. (more…)
