WordPress 2.5.1 – Something is Wrong!

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I am almost regretting that I upgraded from WordPress 2.5 to WordPress 2.5.1. Maybe I should have waited for the 2.5.2.

Initially, after the upgrade, everything seems to be working fine. But that is no longer the case. I am finding it difficult to publish my post. The save and publish buttons keeps flashing irrationally. Also, it gives message that it is saving drafts every 30seconds or thereabout! This is most depressing!

Moderating comments have become a herculean task as I struggle to do simple tasks from the administrative dashboard. I have not seen any benefit so far for this upgrage (maybe there are technically, I do not know). However, I just want my blog functioning normal. I do not want to be bogged down with technical issues. It is not the right time to learn scripts and what makes them to give error messages 🙁

Please, if you had read my previous mail encouraging you to update, reconsider. I am no longer sure that was a good idea. So many confused people are having similar problems http://wordpress.org/support/topic/171830 and posting questions at the support forum. The ironical thing is that some are not experiencing these issues, so it makes those of us having such problem look like we did something wrong that is why we are having problems 🙁

How I Upgraded To WordPress 2.5.1 Manually!

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Praise God! I successfully upgraded at last. This morning, I decided to upgrade to WordPress 2.5.1 since I was advised by friends that it was necessary for security reason (that got me scared enough to change my prior decision. I do not want my blog hacked!).

Unfortunately, unlike my prior experience when upgrading from WordPress 2.3 to 2.5, the Automatic Upgrade Plug-in got stuck midway during the upgrading process ( I tried several time but got the same result). It gave the following error

“Could Not Initiate Maintenance Mode”

and then politely gave the following message

“Some problems did not allow us to upgrade your blog. You can email me the logs so that I can help debug your problem……”

That was it. I panicked and started Googling up and down to find possible solution to the error. Well, nothing positive turned up (it could be that I was entering wrong information into Google anyway, I was too tensed up). After wasting about 1hour 30minutes, I told myself it is time to try the manual upgrading that I have been dodging from. So I went back to wordpress.org and also read some posts by other bloggers on how to upgrade manually.

Eventually, I followed the following steps to upgrade manually.

WordPress 2.5.1 Released! WordPress 2.5.2 Almost Ready!

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

I noticed the announcement of the release of WordPress 2.5.1 in my admin dashboard late in the evening yesterday. I was still contemplating if I should go ahead and upgrade or wait for a little while before upgrading when I stumbled upon a post at xfep, you can read the post here.

My last upgrade from WordPress 2.3 was dramatic enough, read the post Upgrade Your WordPress Site Automatically . I am not willing to do two upgrade in quick succession. I am thinking of waiting for the WordPress 2.5.2 before upgrading. However, I am open to suggestion and technical advice. If you have any, do not hesitate to drop a comment. Thanks in advance. Cheers. 😉

Your Online Business Needs Patience Not Haste!

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Instant this! Instant that! Nobody wants delayed gratification. If it is not available now, you can forget it! Welcome to the info-jet age where an email can travel round the globe in less than 1 minute. Every new Online Entrepreneur desire to apply the same principle and make their Online Business Successful.

Alas, that is not the case. You can only have such instant success if your father owns CNN or you are as famous as Bill Gate (just kidding). If not, the earlier you sit down and learn the basics of starting and running a successful online business, the better for you. Running after Get Rich Quick Packages will get you nowhere. You will only end up falling victim to scammers. They promise to make you a millionaire overnight, but you need to part with the little you have first! They have a website well packaged to churn out thousands of dollars into your PayPal account while you do nothing (in your dreams!). They claim that the pages were professionally optimized for SEO, SERP, CPC ….blah, blah, blah. You know the rest of the story. It is all bunch of lies to get your money. Do not fall for it.

I have been working round the clock mopping up any knowledge that can help me achieve my goal for this blog. Was I in a haste to get the desired goal accomplish? Yes, I was? But now I know better. Yesterday, I came across a masterpiece article written by Yaro Starak for newbies like myself. It was quite instructive. It was an eye-opener. The article laid emphasis on the importance of patience in growing an online business. I encourage you to visit his site and download a copy of his masterpiece article “How to start an internet business… and make your first $1,000 online” Even though it is free (save for the time it takes to subscribe and download) you will get better result than that being provided by the fake Instant Cash-Cow Packages making rounds online.

After digesting the information provided in the article, I had to slow down and re-formulate my strategies. I do not want to have a burn-out as a result of being hasty. In less than two months, this blog has moved from a zero level to a level that some friends admire and commended, but I was not satisfied. I actually felt that the growth rate was too slow. I wanted 1,000 subscribers, 500daily visitors, 4PR from Google etc. I wanted it now, I mean yesterday! That meant overworking and putting my health at risk! Is the risk necessary for entrepreneurship success? You bet it is not. I was just being foolish and displaying the ignorance that is common with newbie Online Entreprenuers.

Stop the haste! Stop attempting to achieve unfeasible targets. If you do not know, get this straight, Internet Business is not as fast paced as you think (I wish I could shout this on the roof top to every Nigerian Entrepreneur online). It is the technology available that is fast paced. You can send 1,000 emails under 1minute and all the contacts will receive their copies almost immediately. But it takes effort and time to get those contact names on your subscription list. Patience is a vital ingredient for the Success of your online Business. So learn to allow time do justice to your persistent effort. If you exercise patience, the result will come. See you at the top! Cheers.
