Revisiting The Foundation!

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

When progress slows down to a halt, what do you do? In practical day to day living, there comes a time when all that you know seems to fail at getting you across a particular threshold. You just feel stuck! You have no clue what went wrong and how to get going (maybe that sounds familiar). Well, that is what happened to me of recent.

I sit before my computer and I am blank. Yes, I practically have no clue what I should write about. Even though things are happening around me, I just do not feel like writing about them. However, whenever I visit other blogs or forums, the inspiration flows as my fingers dances up and down on the keyboard (I am an amateur touch typist, doing 50wpm). Some comments I make on other peoples’ site can as well pass for a short post. (more…)

Going For A Five Days Vacation!

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

My activities offline have been hectic this week. There has been several business challenges such that it was practically impossible to keep up with my blogging activities. However, it has been somehow more like an adventure. I feel relieved that the challenges are now testimonies of jobs well done. That means I deserve some kind of reward, don’t you agree? Oh, you expect me to resume my blogging activities. Well, that is a good idea for my online business (at least to keep my readers happy). But I am thinking otherwise.

The Nigerian Government have declared a three day public holiday next week. So, I have decided to stay offline starting from today and catch up with activities happening around me and my family. So, instead of resuming my blogging activities now, I am off to a five days vacation (not sponsored with blog earnings like Yaro Starak). My better half is footing the bills (that is one of the main reason for the excitement, call me a stingy businessman who loves freebies if you like).

I still consider the physical world as been much more interesting than the virtual world. If you reason otherwise, drop a note to tell us about it. Till I return, stay cool. For my Naija friends, happy holidays. Cheers.

Replacement for MS Vista: Ubuntu or WinXP?

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

I just got an additional tool for my online work. I bought a Toshiba Satellite notebook. It is a cute one and it has features that will enhance my online work. I have been excited since it got delivered yesterday. However, I am not happy with the operating software it was packaged with. Your guess is right Microsoft Vista Home Premium!

The operating system is making a mess of the hardware. I can’t get things done on time even though the system boast of a 4gb ram and the 231gb hard disk is almost empty. The operating system is always asking me series of irritating questions.

Each task has to be authorized over and over again. While this security feature may be a wonderful idea, I am beginning to get irritated with the constant nagging (yes, that is what it seems to me). Now I am considering either of two options.

  1. Downgrade from Microsoft Window Vista to Microsoft Window XP. I know it doesn’t sound like a good idea, but I am more comfortable with the short comings of Window XP. Afterall I have been using it for more than 4years now. My fear is that, I may get the whole system muddled up and need to call in a technician! My better half is of the opinion I leave the system as it is and learn to use Microsoft Vista! (I know that sounds like a good advice, but I am already bias because of all the negative stories I’ve heard about Microsoft Vista).
  2. Go for Ubuntu – It has been my heart desire to try out the open source option. But the hitch has always been the difficulty in getting simple things done. For example, getting connected to the internet can be a major issue if the network card manufacturer does not provide a Linux driver and nobody has written a free driver for it. Also, some commercial software do not have open source alternatives yet.

Well, I just have to make a choice and continue. It does no good complaining. If you have a suggestion on the right step I should take, please feel free to drop a note in the comment section. Thanks.

Simplicity of Living!

Life is simple, but human beings create complexities! Enjoy this little story, and learn a tip. Happy Weekend!

Simplicity Of Life
Simple but Beautiful

During the Revolutionary War in America, a few British officers, the bearers of a flag of truce, were invited by the general of the Insurgents to stop and dine with him. As a result of this courtesy, they were ushered into a tent where an officer was roasting some potatoes on a camp stove. Expecting an elaborate table, the British officers were astonished when the officer preparing the meal wiped away the ashes from the potatoes, and placed them on the table as the dinner for the general and his company. Which Is More Profitable? Blog Or Forum

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

I just got employed to moderate a forum. It is fun sitting behind the “virtual walls” and keeping tab on others activity. Oh, I have been enjoying myself. I just started the job (no pay though, just some volunteering). After two days, the curious me is begining to think, which is more profitable for an online entrepreneur? A blog or a forum. I love digging for new ways to earn money online. So long the idea is legal and above board morally.

In my opinion, a blog is expensive to maintain. Not just in monetary terms, but also in terms of other resources. A blogger has to be a jack of all trades, at least in the begining, until he is capable of employing staff or outsourcing some of those unpleasant tasks. e.g. Search Engine Optimization (SEO), web design and layout, building backlinks, upgrading blogging software, securing site against hackers etc. I will rather spend my time writing down my ramblings and socialising with friends around the globe. Well that may be my personal preference, maybe you enjoy those task, while I don’t. (more…)
