Stop Looking For Job, Create A Business!

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

How long have you been looking for a job? Probably months or even over a year! How long will it take before you get your dream job? Have you ever thought of starting a small business instead of spending all your time and resources looking for job in a market where supply is more than demand?

It is a painful thing to be un-employed (as it translates into no-income or living on charity). It grieves my heart when I see able bodied young men and women in Nigeria going from one company to another looking for job. Often they are made to queue for hours under hot sun before they take a job-test or are interviewed. The job market is so saturated that it is common to see 100 applicants queuing for a vacancy for 2!

Entrepreneurship Is Not For The Lazy

Monday, April 21st, 2008

As a little kid, whenever anyone asks me what career I want to pursue when I grow-up, I tell them that I want to be a Managing Director. My cousin gets embarrassed whenever he hears this and scolds me that there is no such career! Well, that was what I wanted. At the back of my mind I wanted to occupy a big office and sit on a big executive swivel chair issuing instruction to subordinates! Funny enough, I never bother to think about what I was going to be managing (a hospital or a blog, lol). I was only focussed on, the big title, big office, big executive desk and swivel chair and subordinates standing at attention while I issue commands. Pretty childish, but I held unto it until I did a course in the University, Entrepreneurship Development. It was then I was forced to think about what service I will be rendering to the consumers!
Unfortunately, an average would-be Nigerian Entrepreneur is still having that faulty frame of mind. If you ask an average Nigerian, he will tell you “I want to do business” meaning I want to be my own boss, I want to be a “Chairman Managing Director”, an entrepreneur. The phrase Managing Director is regarded as a status symbol, not a job designation for an Entrepreneur (If you listen to some folktale-musicians in Nigeria, you will understand better what I mean). I get really bothered when I read posts in Nigerian Forums that shows that even some of the educated ones are still reasoning along that line. (more…)

Get Yourself A Mentor

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Why do you need a mentor?
I will answer the question using an illustration. If a man embarks on a tour of an unknowing territory without employing the service of an experienced guide, we will not be surprised if he ends up lost. Would we? Common sense demands that anyone embarking on a journey into an unknown territory should employ the service of the best guide that knows the territory very well. It is plain stupid to launch into the unknown without a guide, praying that you will not get lost.

6 Requirements For Your Success Online

Friday, March 28th, 2008
  1. Belief – You need to belief in yourself that you can do it. So many successful entrepreneurs were people written off as failures by the society. Some of the entrepreneurs making waves in the business world now had more hurdles to combat than you presently have. So be encouraged. (I will suggest you read bibliography of successful men, their testimonies will inspire you to succeed).
  2. Desire – Without a strong desire to succeed, temporary setbacks or hurdles will easily kill your dream.
