Self-Promoting Your Blog for Traffic

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

There are over 50millions blogs out there, and more are being created as I write this post. Yet each blogger wants to be known. Everyone wants Traffic! That according to Rich Schefren is “endless demand for attention…” Everyone wants attention! Since 24hours/day cannot be extended, internet users are learning to be on guard, they have all manner of automatic filters programmed into their brain to filter out unwanted websites. They unconsciously rank older websites with high level of patronage as being more trustworthy while new websites are treated as suspects.

That is quite a big hurdle for every new blogger. How can people establish trust in me when I am not even given an opportunity to show that I am trustworthy? (I should be given a fair hearing first before judgment is passed πŸ™ ). Unfortunately, that will not happen! The verdict has already been passed, “New websites and are not to be trusted until they prove they are trustworthy.” The verdict was passed before I have an opportunity to present my case!

That is the reason some blogs have thousands of visitors per day (great website traffic πŸ˜‰ ), while some newbie bloggers can scarcely boast of 10visitors in a week(poor website traffic πŸ™ ). As a newbie, this can be demoralizing. After investing so much energy and resource into a blog (setting up a beautiful layout, providing quality content), it is depressing to notice that nobody is coming around to visit. So what can you do?

Fix Flashing Save And Publish Button In WordPress 2.5.1

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Since I upgraded my blog from WordPress 2.5 to WordPress 2.5.1, life has not really been the same. Even though I reported the upgrade as been sucessful I discovered much later that something was really wrong.

The SAVE and PUBLISH buttons on the admin dashboard flashes whenver I try to write a post (there were other issues, but that was easily identifiable). After going through posts by others that have similar issues in the WordPress forum, I was more perplexed than helped. As at one hour ago before posting this, I was still confused on what the solution could be.

Finally, some few minutes ago, I came accross a postΒ that I read before but did not understand. The 20th post gave a clue which was all the solution I need. The poster, Sam_a stated that anyone experiencing the problem should check to ensure that he actually uploaded the new wp-settings.php file that was included in the WordPress 2.5.1 folder.

When I checked, I discovered that I was having the old wp-settings.php file from WordPress 2.5 So, I renamed that file and then uploaded the newΒ file from WordPress 2.5.1 folder that I have on my desktop. After doing that, I have not experienced the blinking SAVE and PUBLISH button again. For now the admin dashboard is more stable than it was before and hopefully, there will not be any other issue.

If you had similar issue, I suggest you try this solution. I am still at a loss why I could not do an automatic upgrade, if you have a clue, please drop a note in the comment section. Thanks.

Set Goals and Plan For Your Online Business

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

“He who fails to plan has already planned to fail” is a popular adage. If you do not deliberately define what Success in Online Business means to you personally, you might get yourself worn out and feeling unfulfilled after putting in so much effort and resources into your online business.

There is need for you to set your Online Business goal. Setting business goals helps you to use your time and resources more effectively. This step should not be taking for granted. Define you goal and right it down. I will encourage you to use the following acronym which is commonly use to ensure that you get the goal well spelt out. Make your goal S.M.A.R.T!

WordPress 2.5.1 – Something is Wrong!

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I am almost regretting that I upgraded from WordPress 2.5 to WordPress 2.5.1. Maybe I should have waited for the 2.5.2.

Initially, after the upgrade, everything seems to be working fine. But that is no longer the case. I am finding it difficult to publish my post. The save and publish buttons keeps flashing irrationally. Also, it gives message that it is saving drafts every 30seconds or thereabout! This is most depressing!

Moderating comments have become a herculean task as I struggle to do simple tasks from the administrative dashboard. I have not seen any benefit so far for this upgrage (maybe there are technically, I do not know). However, I just want my blog functioning normal. I do not want to be bogged down with technical issues. It is not the right time to learn scripts and what makes them to give error messages πŸ™

Please, if you had read my previous mail encouraging you to update, reconsider. I am no longer sure that was a good idea. So many confused people are having similar problems http://wordpress.org/support/topic/171830 and posting questions at the support forum. The ironical thing is that some are not experiencing these issues, so it makes those of us having such problem look like we did something wrong that is why we are having problems πŸ™
