- Belief – You need to belief in yourself that you can do it. So many successful entrepreneurs were people written off as failures by the society. Some of the entrepreneurs making waves in the business world now had more hurdles to combat than you presently have. So be encouraged. (I will suggest you read bibliography of successful men, their testimonies will inspire you to succeed).
- Desire – Without a strong desire to succeed, temporary setbacks or hurdles will easily kill your dream.
- Goal – You must be able to state clearly, and in explicit terms the end result you’re aiming for. It is best if you write it down using unambiguous words and stating the time frame within which you desire to accomplish the goal.

I need more traffic. No blogger is ever tired of getting more traffic. I joined RSS Hugger because they promise to send more traffic my way 😉 (of course free). Other bloggers that joined before me have a good testimony about them so I decided to join the train.

When I started Nigerian Entrepreneur, my Alexa ranking was well over 5million. However, this morning, approximately 3weeks after, I have my ranking reading 610,255. I did not do anything spectacular to get the present ranking, just the usual tips suggested by more experienced bloggers. Find the tips below, they sure will add a boost to your ranking.
5 Quick Tips to Increase Your Website Alexa Ranking
- Install the Alexa toolbar or Firefox’s SearchStatus extension and set your blog as your homepage. If you work in an office, get everyone in the office to install the toolbar and set your site as their homepage.
- Put up an Alexa rank widget on your website. I did this a few days ago and receive a fair amount of clicks every day. According to some, each click counts as a visit even if the toolbar is not used by the visitor.
- Write or Blog about Alexa. Webmaster and bloggers love to hear about ways to increase their Alexa rank. They’ll link to you and send you targeted traffic (i.e. visitors with the toolbar already installed). This gradually has effects on your Alexa ranking.
- Use your URL as signature in forums and social media sites. This will naturally increase human traffic to your site and that will sure increase your ranking.
- Get listed on as many search engines as possible. I learnt that if a blog gets a free listing in DMOZ then it will get a lot of traffic since it is the largest human edited directory on the web (I am yet to get listed, if you have any idea on how to do it, let me know :-)).

I have come across several articles suggesting tricks for cheating the system. They are not worth it. Remember it is a matter of time, a cheat will eventually get caught!
- Don’t use auto-surf scripts or auto-refreshing web-pages, you will only eventually get into trouble.
- Don’t use Alexa redirect it no longer works.

Why you should start your online business with a blog?

The last post How to choose an online business, gave useful suggestions on how a newbie can choose the best business to start online. Today, I want to go a step further by providing a launch pad for those that are still confused on which type of business they should embark on (despite all that have been written on the subject).
Start a blog. Start it now. Yes, the easiest way to start an online business is by starting a blog. If you want a definition, here is one “A blog is a weB log. It is simply an online journal or diary where you write anything and everything, it all depends on you” It is yours. You have the freedom to make it your private turf, your private closet (open to selected few) or a public dump-ground (everyone is welcome). It all depends on your taste and passion 😉
