How To Password Protect Shared Folders In WinXP
« on: October 12, 2010, 07:54:35 AM »
For quite a long while, I've been using winxp professional. I still consider it about the best operating system developed by Microsoft. However, I missed the feature of been able to password protect my shared folders. After searching for a solution to that, I came accross a little trick that helps password shared folders across the network. Here is the details:

   1. Log into Windows XP as an Administrator
   2. Click Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts, then click on Guest Account and make sure it is turned on
   3. Now Click Start -> Run, type cmd in the entry box, and click Ok
   4. At the command prompt, type Net user guest password and press Enter
   5. Again, Click Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts, then click on Guest Account
Notice that you can now set a password on the Guest Account. Set a Password for the Guest Account and restart your Computer
Henceforth, anyone desirous of looking into any of your shared folders across the network must supply the Guest Account password. If not, they will be deny access.
Cheers.
