Bulk SMS Resellers Price War

Nigerian Bulk SMS Reseller Price War

Bulk Sms Reselling

Bulk Sms

Buy Bulk SMS for as low as N1.xx…. I guess that is the latest catchy phrase in Nigeria. It is quite interesting that many Bulk SMS resellers are trying to woo Nigerian consumers via rock bottom pricing. There is a serious price war going on now as they try to outdo each other by offering rock bottom price for their bulk sms services. I guess if it were possible, some will even offer free SMS just to snatch customers from their competitors. Well, that strategy is not working for now. At least, it has not made me change from my present service provider. Honestly speaking, if someone somewhere think this is the way to do bulk sms reselling business, they better have a rethink. Nigerian consumers are not fools!

Price is Not Everything

Of what benefit is a service that is cheap but inefficient? It is economically unwise to spend money on a service simply because it appears cheap! If the service can’t produce the expected result, then it is money wasted irrespective of how cheap it is. Why should I buy SMS at the rate of N1.00 only to discover that messages sent are never delivered to the intended recipients or it gets delivered when it is no longer relevant. Someone sent an SMS that is meant to wish a loyal client happy birthday but delivery of the message was delayed until 2days after the birthday! I’ll say that is a crappy service, irrespective of how cheap the service was. I’ll rather pay double to get the message delivered at the right time.

So many Bulk SMS resellers are not getting their acts well. You must not be the cheapest in the market to be the most patronized. There are other qualities that can make you stand out in the crowd. My bulk sms service provider is not the cheapest, but they know how to deliver quality services. 😉

Rolls Royce Is Not Cheap

Just think about Rolls Royce. Rolls Royce manufacturing team are not trying to increase or maintain their market share by reducing their price to compete with the likes of Nissan. Instead, they strive to improve on the performance of their model and the luxury it affords the buyers. Irrespective of how low another car manufacturer may place their price, lovers of Rolls Royce won’t be wooed!

Rolls Royce High Quality

Rolls Royce High Quality

Nigerian Consumers are wise

As an entrepreneur, you need to do proper homework before using low price as a bait to increase your market share. If your service is poor and your customer support service  is non-existent or inefficient, then lowering your price will do no good. You should focus your attention first on improving your service before inviting more clients to try your service.

Bulk SMS resellers compete in an international market

Price war gimmick is a common strategy of the Nigerian  gsm telecom operators. Nigerian consumers no that the price war is just a gimmick because it is always accompanied by crappy services. The fact that the gsm operators seem to be getting away with this doesn’t mean the consumers are fools. So never conclude that the same trick will work for bulk sms resellers. Unlike gsm telecom operators who have the advantage of operating in a closed local market, bulk sms resellers are actually operating in a highly competitive international market.

So my advice to all those wannabe Bulk SMS resellers out there is that they go improve on their services . You will only be relevant in the market by offering quality service. Nigerians online won’t mind patronizing a bulk sms reseller who operates from the moon as long as the service is reliable. Even though I am proudly Nigerian, I don’t subscribe to crappy services. The bulk sms price war strategy is not working, think of something else. Cheers.

I think the challenge is that most bulk sms provider are sub-dealer and are only there to make quick money. And the fact that you have to pay ahead doesn’t help the customers. My suggestion is that people should try to find out more information on the people behind the bulk sms providers. If they are people you can trust, you can go ahead to patronise them. Else, beam your search light somewhere else

Well said. There is nothing wrong with being a Bulk SMS sub-dealer, someone has to start small and grow big. However, it is wrong to start aiming at quick profit when one start a new business. Once customers notice that you are only after their money and not bothered about their satisfaction, they will look for alternative.

Too many wannabe bulk sms reseller are not taking time to study the rudiment of providing reliable bulk sms service to the Nigerian populace. They are just joining the bandwagon of bulk sms resellers because they think it is another lucrative business opportunity that can make one a millionaire overnight.

That wrong motive is what is wrong. And you can see it written over their poorly made websites and crappy backend plus unreliable gateway. I don’t mean to be rude, but that is the best way I can describe the situation.

I strongly believe that anything worth doing is worth doing well. Any entrepreneur that is not ready to provide good service for the people should not collect their hard earned money. Else such has migrated from being an entrepreneur to a fraud! So, no more crappy service!

You are spot on! The issue at hand is not only about bulk sms reseller but about businesses at large. Most people go into business because they want to solve their poverty problem once for all. And this explains why people would rather go into an established business than start something from scratch. People want to go to a tested business field without doing their due diligence. The result is what we have in the bulk SMS segment. It is well

Well said, we are into bulk sms business and we have features beyond the simple bulk sms that everyone is providing everywhere. For instance, let’s say you have a contact group online of over 500 users and you need to send an important meeting invite without an internet connection, we have mobile originated sms that will allow you send {sms***message} to our long code number which will deliver to your group with a host of other features
Actually, for the cheap sms you see everywhere, they simply push your sms to the cloud. If you want Reliable, Secure and most functional, feature rich SMS Platform, then head over to PluralSMS.com.
A serious SMS Service provider should have at least an online payment system, how would a reliable service require you to pay in the bank and mail/text to a number for activation?
PluralSMS is the only platform with both Inter-switch and Visa Online payment. Join Us today

  5. Same thing is happening to web hosting. Some folks are offering as much as 1GB Disk space and 50GB monthly bandwidth for N2,500 with free domain included. Pretty risky if you ask me.

@PluralSMS: Not everybody is comfortable using their credit/debit cards on Naija sites. I’m NOT comfortable @ all. The bank deposit thingy works just fine for me.

    NaijaEcash Webmaster,

My two previous posts were not approved. Surprisingly the post from PluralSMS is appearing here. What’s wrong with mine? I was talking about Zimoby Bulk SMS just like someone is marketing PluralSMS here. Please let me know the rules. We need to show users whats available in the market. We spent time to build our platform and its changing everyday with new features. We work on the service rather than the price. So far, we have been able to explain why we will not go down the price war route.

You know you are right. It is not expedient to keep reducing your price list because you want to acquire customers in this business. I have actually reduced my price list before, but there are still some out there who are still offering higher prices and I believe they are selling.

So, I will just leave the price as it is now, at least for now. It is the quality of service that matters as indicated and not the low price been offered.

    Thank you for this post.

    • Willie says:

Talking about the mix of quality and low price.

A particular client needed to buy a large amount of sms units and wanted a lower price which I could not offer with my sms service at wiresnetbizsms.com, so I decided to set up another site with a lower price so as to get the business. However, it turned out that the second site did not provide excellent service and I think I may have lost that client. So, I have decided to stop selling sms units from that site. Instead, I will continue with my first sms site which is more reliable. It is better to have a good service and maintain your clients than otherwise.

The point is offer a good service instead of a poor service even if the price is a little bit higher. You and your business will be better for it.

  9. Bakare says:

Truly the real thing is service delivery and we should expect nothing less than a great service. There is much money to be made from this business, therefore let us all protect it.

Assume all the resellers start offering free bulk sms service, then what? Where the war is going to end? The prices are already at bottom-low, now what?

  11. kolobigi says:

The whole thing is quite shaddy,I would have made the mistake of diving in when it was N2.50k ,now I the whole thing is tumpsy tuvvy and srappy too.I wonder how they will survive considering the international competition,I used to think it is a local thing,be that as it may I have seen a lot phase out after coming up strongly.

You guys are quite right. Infact I have a similar advice on my membership site like this. Its not about price..its about the Royce Rolls. Plural sms did well with his/her new features at his/her bulk sms site. One other thing I will advice the bulk sms resellers to do is think in terms of solutions; solutions to business problems and how they can use sms to offer that solution.

  13. Gab says:

I usually dont make comments on blogs or market via them. I just come to learn most times and enjoy myself, but this piece is really strong. And i think it all boils down to market forces and soon they will be at play in the Bulk SMS industry. But what will stand the quality service providers out from the charlatans would be their professionalism, their solutions as someone pointed out and ultimately their desire, love for the industry and the creation of innovations that meets clients needs. our website currently runs as only a bulk sms platform but we also offer solutions that are light years ahead in the industry, including mobile marketing, mobile coupons and database segmentation(giving you your target market on mobile)! email us at info@gpointsms.com for information on these solutions and more.

  14. Good talk. the major problem is that people are always carried away with the cheap amount tagged to it. we offer both voice sms and bulk sms at best and efficent prices.

  15. Dare says:

Is there a way to evaluate bulksms providers and provide the outcome of the review/evaluation to the public or at least members of this forum. If this is the only contribution we have to make to the society on matters such as this.

    a) Bulksms provider will submit details of their website highlighting features that are required to be in place for this evaluation. Participation will be voluntary.

    b) BulkSMS provider will allow reviewer to test run the service for the following:
    – technologies used
    – friendliness of service,
    – ease of navigation,
    – customer service,
    – online payment feature,
    – message delivery rate,
    – history log of transactions (payments, credits, send messages etc)

    c) Does provider offer multiple reseller options

    d) Does provider have a sustainable business model for resellers to make money

    e) Does provider have a contact office address

    f) Is service able to report scam and shut down scammers

    g) Does provider have a way to filter content (offensive, pornographic words in text messages)

    h) Does provider have a help desk that can be reached 24/7. At least an e-ticketing system which will

Obviously there will be more KPIs that we can look at. Ultimately, we can come out with some findings that will guide unsuspecting customers.

Please visit our website at http://www.zimoby.com if you are not already using our service.

Who are the quick profit seekers?
They have successfully destroyed the business, I was privilege to know that some GSM operator wants to take over this business and that explains why bulk sms is hardly delivered to some networks now.
I also gathered that they want to increase the price and make it viable for themselves.
It is so bad that after talking about forming an association we could not do anything and allow the big boys to take over the business Or who knows the where about of Amina who has gone so far in this?
But in the interim can I request that all bulk sms that is less than 1000 quantity be sold for N2.50k. It should be a uniform price

Are you a provider of bulksms service?. Have you been concerned about recent developments which threaten the continued existence and survival of the business in Nigeria?. Time is ripe for an association of bulksms providers, an umbrella body to develop and regulate the practice & business of bulksms and to fight the cause of the members.

Let us start the journey now. Please visit http://www.nabsp.net to register as a member. We will release the road map of this association to registered members in the coming days ahead.

The price war is indeed interesting but is part of business you know. It is left for potential customers to test each service. There are providers who sell at low prices that render better services than those who sell at cut-throat prices. The GSM industry is also experiencing this. What I have observed here is that some providers are practically trying to rundown others while advertising their service. At kudisms.com , we don’t brag, we deliver on point and we offer free test SMS to cinfirm our service before purchase.

It’s incredible that sms’s cost down to N0.80K for volumes upto 1M. this equates to abt 0.004 euro cents. I wonder whether these are direct binding or internation routes.
