5 Tips for Increasing your Alexa Rank without cheating!

5 tips for increasing your Alexa rank without cheating

When I started Nigerian Entrepreneur, my Alexa ranking was well over 5million. However, this morning, approximately 3weeks after, I have my ranking reading 610,255. I did not do anything spectacular to get the present ranking, just the usual tips suggested by more experienced bloggers. Find the tips below, they sure will add a boost to your ranking.

5 Quick Tips to Increase Your Website Alexa Ranking

  1. Install the Alexa toolbar or Firefox’s SearchStatus extension and set your blog as your homepage. If you work in an office, get everyone in the office to install the toolbar and set your site as their homepage.
  2. Put up an Alexa rank widget on your website. I did this a few days ago and receive a fair amount of clicks every day. According to some, each click counts as a visit even if the toolbar is not used by the visitor.
  3. Write or Blog about Alexa. Webmaster and bloggers love to hear about ways to increase their Alexa rank. They’ll link to you and send you targeted traffic (i.e. visitors with the toolbar already installed). This gradually has effects on your Alexa ranking.
  4. Use your URL as signature in forums and social media sites. This will naturally increase human traffic to your site and that will sure increase your ranking.
  5. Get listed on as many search engines as possible. I learnt that if a blog gets a free listing in DMOZ then it will get a lot of traffic since it is the largest human edited directory on the web (I am yet to get listed, if you have any idea on how to do it, let me know :-)).

You don’t need to Cheat to Increase Your Alexa Ranking

I have come across several articles suggesting tricks for cheating the system. They are not worth it. Remember it is a matter of time, a cheat will eventually get caught!

  • Don’t use auto-surf scripts or auto-refreshing web-pages, you will only eventually get into trouble.
  • Don’t use Alexa redirect it no longer works.

Those 5 tips for increasing your alexa rank requires no cheating. Use them and see your alexa rank increase. You can get free updates to the post 5 tips for increasing your alexa rank without cheating by subscribing to my RSS feed. See you at the top 🙂

Nice article. I was unaware of the benefit of the Alexa Widget. How does it do as far as slight slowdown? Didn’t seem to slow yours down any. Just curious.

Tommy, thanks for visiting. The Alexa widget doesn’t take much time to load. So you won’t notice any significant change in your site load-up time. I encourage you to use it. Cheers.

I see you are using it ?

    Hi,
Thanks for dropping by at my blog. It was nice of you reading the article and dropping your candid opinion in the comment.

The post was not meant to sound like a boast but rather a testimony of Tips and Tricks that are acceptable by the online community which I have used to drive traffic to my site thereby improving my Alexa Ranking.

Entrecard is an online community of bloggers (www.entrecard.com) Just like any other community, the members collaborate to drive traffic and give exposure to members website. While some frown at the community as one that generate junk traffic, some expert have come to accept its usefulness in the class of Stumble Upon, Digg, Shpinx, Del-ic-ous etc.

Since the system being used by Entrecard is open for all to verify, it cannot be termed as cheating. If you have a blog or website that you think can benefit from more exposure, I will strongly recommend that you join the community.

It might interest you to note that I have been lazy in the community, that is why I have an average drop rate of 48dropped cards per day. If I had concentrated effort on using the community as my main source of traffic, I will be having at least 200dropped cards per day.

For now, I am trying to woo the search engines. That is where my effort is concentrated. It is a difficult task as SEO is a course that cannot be finished in three months (my blog is less than 3months old).

I hope this has answered your questions. Once again, I say it is a pleasure having you around. Cheers.

There is some controversy over how representative Alexa’s user base is of typical Internet behavior. If Alexa’s user base is a fair statistical sample of the internet user population, Alexa’s ranking should be quite accurate.

Nice article, I’ve stayed away from installing the widget but you’ve convinced me. It’s now on my site. I’ll monitor the alexa ranking and see if there’s any significant change.

Almost all of your tips have been de-bunked and don’t do anything for Alexa rank especially putting the widget on your blog.

This is a great post, fortunately 70% of the time of website owner is consumed in experimenting towards increasing page rank and alexa rank. To start with increasing page rank one must start with downloading Alexa toolbar for IE or firefox on as many system possible. as a second step alexa widget on every page of your website, by this way every webpage opened is counted while calculating rank inspite is user does not have alexa toolbar installed

    Hi.

I’ve had similar success with Alexa rankings. From over 16 million to less than 500, 000 in 3 months without cheating. But I wonder- how much of web traffic is real? Because with the number of things people do to increase rankings and get traffic, it’s so much of tricks and at the end of the day, many sites that claim to be well visited are actually just products of manipulation.

By the way, this site is one of the ones I really enjoy.

It’s a very interesting issue, the Alexa ranking. We all know that it’s not an exact measure, but it’s a way of measuring what we do and we need it. I think we should focus our efforts on increasing “popularity” and most of all, on increasing the “confidence” of our visitors: this is the only way we can get them back again and again, and it’s the only way to make money on the Internet. I dont know may it didnt work because i iam using blogspot and not a personal domain name. iam fairly new in blogging too and now has over 100 unique visitor on the average everyday. I may possibly try your tactics on my other blogs. Thank you bro

I’ve long discarded my reliance on Alexa statistics. I now focus on getting well ranked in the search engines. I do that by providing quality information that keeps surfers coming back. I wish you success in your endeavours. cheers.

  22. The use of this toolbar as a browser add-on has its benefits just as Google has provided many useful benefits to those who have used it and used it to a maximum. If there is indeed a way of doing it sans cheating, all the more it would be better. Thanks for posting such an article that teaches tricks without having to be deceitful.
